Group accountants work with all types of small companies and large corporations in small and large markets to ensure that all the financial statements of the company are accurate and the company stays out of debt. These accountants work with all divisions in the company to ensure each division stays on budget and keeps the profit up and the losses down. The group accountant must be a certified accountant in the area in which they work and in return, will receive a competitive salary and usually benefits packages as well. This is a fast growing, highly competitive top career in the accounting industry where you will be eligible for various salary increases often, boosting your eventual salary into the six figure range in some larger markets. The education, experience and the company you work for will determine what your salary will be. However, this is a very competitive market where the wage for qualified group accountants starts at a generous $40,000 to $50,000 per year, with the opportunity for that wage to go up to the $100,000 range in the future.

Education

In order to become a certified group accountant, you must first go back to college to earn at least your Bachelors degree in Accounting. If you want to take your group accounting career to its full potential, you will need to also earn your Masters degree once you have completed your Bachelors degree. The good news is that you no longer need to be strapped to a rigorous class schedule. You can earn both of these degrees through various top online universities where you can enjoy all the benefits of college without ever stepping foot into a classroom. instead, you complete the degree on your own time. Once you earn your degree, you must also pass any certification testing that may be required in your state, since each state has different requirements to become certified. Job Description

The group accountant works with all types of companies as the go-to person for all their financial needs and advice. This accountant must be well-versed in mathematics and have the ability to reconcile accounts and effectively complete all yearly taxes. This position requires you to work with a team compiled from various departments throughout the corporation, including human resources and sales, in an effort to ensure the profitability of the corporation and the future success of the company and all those who work for that company. In addition, you will be responsible for the overall cash flow records of the company, keeping track of both current payments and late payments due by the company to various vendors as well as current and back payments that are due to the company. The group accountant does not just work for corporations, they also have the ability to work with various non-profit organizations. Some who are qualified with extensive experience can also open a private practice where they either work alone or with a set of partners.
