Respiratory Care & Therapy

Respiratory therapists assess respiratory disorders, conduct diagnostic tests, develop a treatment plan and assist patients in strengthening their respiratory systems. They work with patients in diverse circumstances ranging from newborn infants whose lungs are still undeveloped and adults with asthma or emphysema issues. They can work in private practice or travel to the patient’s home but most (79 percent) work in hospitals. Respiratory therapists must have training outside of high school and a license is required in most states. Respiratory care and therapy courses will teach you the basics of anatomy, physiology, diagnostic testing, cardiac rehabilitation and disease prevention. This sector of the medical field is expected to continue in its rapid rate of growth as the baby boomers age and need medical assistance. The average salary of respiratory therapists in the U.S. is $40,840. Get into some classes today!
