Landscape
These days perfectly manicured emerald green lawns are the norm, even in deserts like Las Vegas, thanks to landscape architects. They are the professionals behind the proliferation of all the gorgeous parks, playgrounds and golf courses across the US. Landscape architects design these areas to be both beautiful and functional through the precise selection of trees and shrubs and the expert placement of flowerbeds and plants. As a landscape architect you can work for a real estate firm or own your own business. Your typical daily activities will include creating plans and designs, estimating costs, meeting with clients, supervising grounds workers and visiting the site. The Bureau of Labor estimates that the median salary for a landscape architect is $55,140.
Landscape courses will teach you how to design a yard or garden, which trees and plants are best for different climates, different soil varieties, lawn care, ecological principles and more.
Related areas of study include architecture, floral design, construction management, engineering, environmental science surveying, urban and regional planning, botany (the study of plants), and dendrology (the study of trees).
