Motorcycle Mechanic
If you are interested in becoming a motorcycle mechanic, whether you just love bikes, or you are interested in the mechanics, and how things work, then getting a degree in motorcycle mechanic is a great way to start. Motorcycle mechanics are responsible for maintaining, repairing, and completely overhauling a motorcycle. For this reason, a motorcycle mechanic has to have the basic knowledge of the entire engine, not only of motorcycles, but of smaller vehicles, like the moped or scooters, and dirt bikes.
Not only will a motorcycle mechanic be repairing and maintaining the engines, they will also work on the transmission, brakes of the bike, the ignition system, and make all the major and minor repairs which customers come in with. So, having the right training and skill set is essential in order to ensure that the mechanic working on your bike, has the qualifications, and really knows the engine (and other parts), inside and out.
So, to get the proper training and certification to become a motorcycle mechanic in the industry, and be considered as certified, you are going to have to go through motorcycle mechanics school and training programs. There are several options for those who are interested in this career choice to choose from. There are both local schools, depending on where you live, as well as, national schools, which can be found in any state, no matter where you live in the country. But, if you are really looking forward to working on bikes, with a big company, you are going to have to get the proper degree in order to be hired. Otherwise, you are not going to get hired by the quality companies, and will probably not be able to get a very good job in the industry at all.
Getting a Job
So, once you have completed your certification and degree program, you are not considered a certified mechanic, and can work on motorcycles, and the smaller line of vehicles (mopeds, scooters, etc), which have the similar type of engine which are used to run them. The more knowledge you have in the area, and the more you know the different parts of the bike (especially the engine and transmission), the more likely you are going to be to land a job with a large motorcycle repair shop.
Making sure that you are fully prepared to apply for a position is essential before you go in and apply for a job. You are going to want to show that you have the proper certification, brush up on your skills, so that you will be able to answer any question presented to you, and feel confident when you go in for the interview. If you have the proper training and certification, you should be confident applying for any position. But, the first step is getting the degree and training in order to become a certified motorcycle mechanic, and in order to find the big job you are looking to land.
