When you start your training at Motorcycle Mechanics Institute, you will begin with a 36-week intensive training program that includes all of the education you need to work on all motorcycles. This training includes motorcycle theory, drivability, performance testing, and engine diagnosis and troubleshooting on the top brands of motorcycles on the market: BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Harley Davidson.
Upon completion of the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute core program, you then choose an elective in which you can specialize in the motorcycles of your dreams. Whichever manufacturer you choose, you will receive certification as a manufacturer-endorsed mechanic, greatly increasing your earning potential and employability.
What you will do as a motorcycle mechanic
As a trained, certified motorcycle mechanic, you will be enjoying one of the best careers of its kind. On a daily basis, you will perform visual inspection and test drive motorcycles to determine any electrical, computerized, or mechanical issues that need to be repaired. You will also use computerized testing and diagnostic devices and make an accurate estimate of the required time to maintain or repair the motorcycle.
Additionally, you will be required to review manufacturers’ technical manuals for up-to-date information on parts to be used and the procedures that should be followed in maintenance or repair jobs. Finally, you will compile a list of needed parts as well as the cost of the parts and perform the needed repairs. These repairs will include fuel injection systems, plugs, brakes, oil changes, electrical and computer system repairs, and much more.
You will perform your duties using a wide range of hand-held and power tools as well as instruments that are specific to running diagnostics on motorcycles. It is vital to remain current on your technical knowledge so you can maintain a competitive edge in your field.
