Kindergarten Teacher

Kindergarten Teacher

Most people have such wonderful memories of their kindergarten teachers. It is such a precious time in a child’s life. If you want to be part of starting a child’s educational pursuits on a positive and memorable path, consider becoming a teacher on a child’s very first day of school.

Kindergarten Teacher

Being a kindergarten teacher is more complicated than simply creating exciting experiences and delightful memories for young people. Children entering kindergarten are often at a very crucial point in their developmental process. Some children will enter kindergarten incredible scared and dependent upon their parents. Some parents have far greater dependency issues than the child. Some children will be incredibly eager and outgoing creating an easy transition for them. These children will make friends easier and begin their development more quickly. Some children will be reserved and shy, making it more difficult for them to make friends and begin their crucial development. They may retreat internally and shut off any outside authority. Some children will have developmental issues that are clearly noticeable, while others may be more subtle. Some children may have abusive situations at home. As a kindergarten teacher, you will be required to observe and assess each child to determine his or her needs.

Most schools have one of three types of kindergarten. You might work for a school with half days everyday, full days everyday, or full days every other day. If you work for a school district with half days every day, you will still work a full day. The classes may occur in the morning or afternoon. Parents may have the choice to select or the school may randomly select the day part for each child. If you teach full days every day, you will have the same children all day long, rather than different children for each part of the day.

By only having children a half day, you may not be able to provide each of them with the attention they deserve at that age. By having children every day all day, it may be too much stimulation for some of the students, causing them to fall behind. This can be true in any type of class, if the parents have not done any educational work with the children at home. By having children full days every other day, this may not be a consistent enough schedule for some children to grasp the education requirements of the next level. All children are different, and all children learn differently. Most children adjust beautifully after some time.

Regardless of your class type, you will be responsible for a number of educational subjects. Depending on your employer and their expectations, you could teach a very basic class or an aggressive preparatory class. If you work for a public school district with less-than-exceptional academic standings, your primary goal may be to focus on the alphabet and other fundamentals most children learn at home. If you work for an affluent private school, your educational standards will surpass those of most public school kindergarten classes. You will work with a school curriculum director, or the principal, to establish a curriculum appropriate for your school. Your education should prepare you to teach subjects such as art, literature, social science, math, music, and physical science.
