Drafting Degree

One of the main types of drafting degrees is that of the Computer Aided Design, or CAD as it is commonly referred to. This drafting degree is mainly for those who do not wish to determine their specialty immediately, instead, they are intended to provide the basic knowledge needed pertaining to all aspects of drafting and design. This program is typically offered in a two year Associates degree and may be earned through most of the online schools where you can complete your entire degree through online courses using the distance education feature provided by the online college. In addition, some online colleges also offer accelerated programs or fast track programs where you can earn your degrees in even less time than the typical two years. With this type of degree, you may begin to work in an entry level position in any of the drafting positions you wish, whether you want to build skyscrapers or roads.

Bachelors of Architecture

The Bachelors of Architecture is one of the most sought after, competitive drafter degrees available. In this program, you will learn all the fundamentals about architecture drafting and design, learning how to develop and design various types of architecture including houses, offices and even skyscrapers. Since this is one of the highly specialized drafting degrees, you could expect to take up to five years to complete this program instead of the usual four years for a standard Bachelors degree. Many online colleges now also offer this type of drafting degree, therefore, if you already have an Associates degree in any of the drafting specialties, you may begin to work in an entry level position, go back to college and earn this degree at the same time.

While this specialized degree will take extensive time and devotion for your educational program, you will still have plenty of time to work, play and do what you need and want to do. Once you have earned the drafting degrees you want, such as the Bachelors in Architecture, you may go to work in any one of the architecture drafting firms and begin working on your first project.
