Your drafting salary will have some variables to it like any other profession. In addition, you may be eligible to earn this degree in about 18 months when you go through one of the online colleges who offer not only distance education and online courses, but accelerated and fast track programs as well. The next degree you can earn can be done in one of two ways. First of all, if you have already earned your Associates degree, you can choose to go back to college for about two additional years to complete your Bachelors program. Once again, this degree can also be completed through online schools using their options to take all online courses instead of traditional classes at an actual college campus. With this degree in place, you can expect your drafting salary to increase up to $20 to $25 per hour.

Type of Drafter

There are many types of drafters; the type you become will depend on the type of structures you wish to design. You may choose the architectural drafting, where you develop and design the blueprints for structures, such as houses, buildings and even skyscrapers. Next is the civil drafter who develops roads, highways and bridges, both the architectural and civil drafter can expect a starting drafting salary of about $30,000 per year, although with experience, this number can increase up to $60,000. These are typically the drafters who are awarded with the higher salary. Although the mechanical drafter who is in charge of developing heavy machinery typically has a salary of about $25,000 to $55,000 per year plus any benefits or bonuses the employer may offer. The drafter in any aspect has a career where they can look almost anywhere to see what they have created which, sometimes, gives the drafter a pride that is worth much more than any monetary salary they can earn.
