If you need experience, begin volunteering for local events and charities. These events are often cash-strapped and eager for an extra pair of hands. While you are volunteering, begin networking. Networking is one of the most crucial tools for successful event planning careers.

How much money you make with event planning careers is greatly dependent upon how many hours you are willing to work, the industry in which you work, and the type of position you acquire. If you decide to be self-employed, you have excellent opportunities to make great money. With that being said, you will also work more hours and be solely dependent upon yourself to find business, build a team, and build relationships. At the same time, you can delegate responsibility to take more time off rather than if you worked for another person. If you decide on an event planner career and become self-employed, you could make anywhere between $40,000 and $50,000. The more experience you have, the more you stand to make.
If you decide upon event planning careers for other businesses, you may make about the same money; however, the job may be very different. You may not always get to choose your team with whom to work. Often, several people may already be assigned to the team when you are hired. You do not get to choose your events; however, companies typically have a much larger budget with which to work. It is always fun to spend other people’s money. Keep in mind, you will have a budget to strictly follow. Your salary will also be dependent upon your location, the size of the company, and the size of your team. In general, you will make between $40,000 and $50,000, as well.
