Logistician

Logistician

The logistician is the one person who is responsible for all the shipping needs of a company. These shipping needs can be shipping down the street, or around the world. It is up to the logistician to ensure the package is sent on-time, received on-time and that the supply is there for the product to be shipped out when it is ordered. The logistician must earn at least a Bachelors degree in business, although some companies will either recommend or require a Masters degree as well. In order to gain either or both of these degrees you must first go back to college to either a traditional college or one of the top online universities who offer an accredited distance learning program where you can earn your degree completely online in less time than it would take to earn your degree at a traditional college. This is one of the best careers to get into as it is a high paced, exciting career that is well rewarded with a generous salary and benefits packages.

Responsibilities

It is the main responsibility of the logistician to ensure that shipping runs smoothly though companies and their shipping providers. This is done by ensuring the supply chain is fully stocked, that all the supplies that are being shipped out are ready to go and that there is enough supply to satisfy the demand for the product. In addition, they must also ensure the shipments are shipped out in a timely manner and that those customers who order a product with next day delivery get their packages at the specified delivery time. In order to do this, they must ensure the delivery is sent out before any cut-off times that the shipping company has to ensure full customer satisfaction. They may also work to provide customers with any tracking numbers so the customer knows where their package is and when to expect it.

Required Degree and Salary

At least a Bachelors in business must be earned before you are qualified to become a logistician. This degree can be earned through some of the best online colleges who offer programs like distance learning or accelerated programs that can knock as much as six months off the total time it takes to earn an online Bachelors degree. In addition, if you already hold a Bachelors degree, you may have the option to go back to college again to earn an online Masters degree in Business, or an MBA. This two year degree can also be done through distance learning online and allows you to get the most out of your career, qualifying you for various pay raises and promotions.

You can expect your starting salary as a logistician to be in the $40,000 range, however; as you gain experience, you can expect your salary to be in the $60,000 range. Only the most experienced logisticians who hold a Masters degree can earn in the $100,000 range.
