As an operations analyst you will be in charge of identifying weaknesses and promoting best practices. As an operation analyst you will meet with your assigned team or department and conduct audits and interviews looking specifically for failures and weaknesses in their daily activities. Once you have compiled the data you will use computer and mathematical simulations to look at ways to increase their efficiency. By doing this you will create a report or presentation to be used to help train and educate the team to run in a more efficient manner.

A bachelor’s degree will be acceptable for many positions, but most employers will want to hire operations analyst candidates with a master’s degree in finance, accounting, operations research or other related fields of study. One option may be to earn a bachelor’s degree, find a position and earn your master’s while working. This gives you the maximum amount of experience after graduation and will put you in a position to easily find an employer. On average, operations analysts will earn $50,000 or more a year. This will vary based on education, experience, position, employer and additional skills. Over time you can expect this income to raise significantly and you should check the current average salary as you get close to graduation. Once you start receiving job offers you want to ensure you are being offered at least the average of your position.

Going to College
