Educational, Vocational, and School Counselors

Educational, vocational, and school counselors are responsible for promoting personal growth for individuals in their social development, education, and career choices. Counselors often evaluate the abilities and aptitudes of students, as well as provide educational and career guidance.

There are several different institutions these counselors can work for. An Elementary School Counselor is primarily involved with evaluating individuals or groups of children to find strengths and special needs of students. A High School Counselor is most often responsible for advising students on what to pursue after completing high school, including helping students with the application process for colleges, universities, and vocational schools to helping those not pursuing further education prepare to enter the work force. A Vocational Counselor is primarily concerned with assisting those outside of school decide upon a career path, evaluating skills, experience, education, and various aptitude tests.

In order to be a licensed counselor of any kind it is often required to complete a master’s degree. Look into the degrees being offered in many locations and start on the path to becoming an Educational, Vocational, or School Counselor.
