Earth Drillers are responsible for using a variety of drills to extract samples in mineral exploration and soil testing, access water and salt deposits, and prepare a selected area for explosives in the mining and construction industry.
A driller is responsible for the operation of the drill for the entire drilling process, they must regulate the air pressure, downward pressure, and rotary speed appropriate for the selected material. When drilling blast holes for explosives the driller may need to be responsible for explosive material.
Working as a drill operator typically requires a high school diploma or GED certificate. A knowledge of mathematics and mechanics is also recommended to succeed. Be sure to look at the programs being offered in many locations and see where you can drill for further knowledge and a better career.
