Crossing Guards

Crossing guards have the vital job of helping people cross streets and directing traffic at schools, intersections, construction zones and even railroad crossings.

Other duties of crossing guards include watching traffic flow and finding safe gaps to cross, helping people across streets, recording license plate numbers of unsafe drivers, advising pedestrians on traffic rules, stopping speeding vehicles and using flags, lights and signals to direct traffic.

As a crossing guard you will also warn drivers of hazards on the road and place markers and signs on roads. You will spend most of your time outside, communicating with others and making decisions regarding pedestrian and driver safety.

Job opportunities for crossing guards are expected to increase. The average hourly wage for people with this job is about $10 and the average annual income is about $22,000. Check out the programs in many locations.
