Job Description of a Federal Air Marshal
First and foremost, you need to understand what a Federal Air Marshal is. When you become a Federal Air Marshal, you will be working for the Federal Air Marshal Service. The Federal Air Marshal Service is a United States law enforcement agency. It is operated under the supervision of the Transportation Security Administration of the US Department of Homeland Security. You will spend your days travelling as a Federal Air Marshal, and be deployed in an effort to detect and defeat acts of hostility towards the United States. Handgun accuracy is extremely important when becoming a Federal Air Marshal. You will be expected to ride on a plane and blend in with passengers. When you are on a plane, it is your job as a Federal Air Marshal to recognize suspicious activity that could be linked to terrorists. Federal Air Marshals are extremely important during holidays and very busy times of travel, as well as on the anniversaries of prior terrorist attacks, such as 9/11.
Training and Education
You can become a Federal Air Marshal by completing an intense training program. The only requirement for signing up for the program is that you have obtained a high school education. The second part of the program is more hands on, where the students will be required to perform tasks that they would perform as part of the job. If they should pass their program, they will be shipped to one of twenty one field offices to begin their work.
