Fire Investigators determine the cause of a fire and collect evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare reports when arson or criminal negligence is suspected.
Fire Investigators must be able instruct and explain fire codes and hazards to others. Fire investigators must remain knowledgeable on the latest regulations, safety procedures, and firefighting techniques. They also help develop fire exit plans, and may be called on to testify in court if arson or criminal negligence is suspected to have cause a fire. This sometimes includes issuing subpoenas and assist in arresting suspected arsonists.
Most fire investigators have some experience in fire fighting that they received after completing a high school diploma or GED certificate. Be sure to check out the programs being offered in many locations.
