When you’re at college, sometimes it’s hard to give a damn about your classes, your assignments, your test results, or even your future. It’s common for college kids to just stop caring at school. If you’re in a slump at school where you just don’t give a damn, here’s some suggestions of how you can care about college again.
- You are paying for your education. Money you’ll be paying back for the next decade with your student loans. Make it worthwhile.
- You could lose your scholarship. If you scored a college scholarship, keep in mind that poor grades can cause you to lose your scholarship. And then point #1 will become your problem, too.
- If you drop out, you’ll have to move home with your mom. Who will screen your dates, wait up for you at night, and make you clean the bathroom.
- Drinking is not a career. Surprising, yes, since you’ll get enough experience at college to fill a resume. That said, you could trade your degree in for bartending school…
- Find friends in your major. You’ll have a built in sounding board to complain about your latest assignment and study group, as well as someone you can team up with to figure out complex problems.
- Have a major you actually care about. Even if that means changing your major halfway through, get on board with something you actually care about. It will give you purpose.
- Get a Care Bear. Maybe some of that care will rub off on you…
- You’ll make less money without a degree. If you’re thinking about dropping out of college, chances are pretty good that you’ll make less money without your college degree. Unless you’re Mark Zuckerberg.
- Give yourself some perspective. Interview or job shadow a professional in the industry you want to work in and get a glimpse of the career you’ll eventually have.
- Take pride. Think of how proud you’ll be when you graduate and finally start your life.
