Who Is Matthew Epstein and What You Can Learn From Him

Everyone has their dream job, and Matthew Epstein’s is to work with Google. Most people do little work to get their dream job except make their way up the ladder the normal way. Matthew Epstein was so passionate about working for Google that he launched an entire marketing campaign focused on one thing, getting hired by Google. Matthew set up a website and made a YouTube video, and with the help of social media got 300,000 unique visitors to his website in one week. Getting your dream job doesn’t necessarily require a marketing campaign that goes viral, but it sure helps.

No matter what you dream job is, Matthew Epstein teaches us a few things that will greatly increase your chances of getting hired. The first is hope. Getting hired at Google is hard, and usually they come to you. Matthew had faith that what he was doing would ultimately land him a job, so he went for it. No matter what happens, don’t lose hope for what you want to become. You will hit barriers and getting to the top isn’t easy, but you can never lose hope.

A second tip that Matthew Epstein exemplifies is determination. He spent more than $3,000 of his dwindling savings account on a quest to get noticed by Google. That takes a lot of courage and if you aren’t determined to get what you want, you will have wasted a lot of money. Matthew didn’t just come out with his website and leave it, he was very involved in the social media buzz and even was featured in some magazines and newspapers.

Lastly, Matthew teaches us that in order to get our dream job, be humble. All throughout his campaign Matthew shows his humility, from confessing that he cannot grow a real mustache to admitting that without the help of the social media world he would have just wasted his time and money. Although he does have the skills necessary to be a Google employee, Matthew never is prideful about his accomplishments. Humility is key if you want to get your dream job.

If you take these three things into consideration when going for your dream job, your chances of success will increase greatly. Be original and funny, but at the same time serious and simple. If you have a story about your dream job, please feel free to comment below.
