An esthetician works to make people more physically attractive and to make them feel better about themselves through a variety of skincare and other techniques. This field has experienced tremendous growth over the past few years and is expected to explode over coming years. In the currently bleak job market, these professionals have some of the most promising prospects for employment of any profession. Getting started in this career is fairly easy, considering the bright future and great pay that is offered by this career. If this interests you, find a good program and get your career training to become an esthetician, one of the top careers of today.
Training to Become an Esthetician
In this job, you will perform a variety of services for your clients each day. This may include performing massage therapy, exfoliation, facials, hair removal, and makeup artistry. The training includes quite a bit of hands-on experience so it is unlikely that you can get your complete training through an online college. Instead, look for programs at local technical schools, community colleges, or beauty schools. Even though you will have to do your clinical practice on site, you may be able to take some of your work as online courses. If you want to take your training even further, you can take classes in microdermabrasion and chemical peels to become a medical esthetician and work in the office of a doctor or a dermatologist.
Coursework during your training to become an esthetician will include such things as esthetic theory, skin analysis, makeup artistry, basic massage, color theory, safety and sanitation, and facial treatments. You will also learn hair removal techniques, esthetic chemistry, anatomy and physiology, body wraps, and salon management principles. All of these courses will prepare you to meet the demands of your job and to work in a variety of establishments and positions, maybe even as a salon manager or as a salon owner.
After school
Once your education is complete, you will need to pass a written licensing exam and, depending on the regulations where you live, possibly an oral and practical exam as well. If you become a medical esthetician, you may also work for a physician or a dermatologist. Depending on the type of position you choose, the area in which you live, and the type of business for which you work, you can earn an average hourly wage of around $15 an hour or more.
Completing the necessary training and licensure requirements to become a professional esthetician will allow you to work in a wonderful variety of environments and to provide services that will make your clients feel better about the way they look. It is a satisfying and rewarding career for anyone who enjoys working with people and who wants to earn a great salary. Have you been searching for a first career? Are you looking for a new career that will get you out of your boring, dead-end job? If so, this is a great career choice for you.
