Entertainment Business

Entertainment Business

The entertainment business is a huge and profitable job market. Television shows, marketing, writing, directing, or being an agent are just a few of the options for individuals interested in this field. Getting into the business requires an education, but the options are almost endless.

How to Break into the Entertainment Business

A few courses you could consider on your way to entering the entertainment business are marketing, advertising management, media planning, negotiation, accounting, or entertainment law. Expect to work towards a bachelor’s degree at the minimum. Actors generally get their start through luck, but the rest of the work force in the entertainment business get their jobs the same as the rest of us. This is not a difficult career path to enter for the right person with the right education. Hard work, experience and education will go a long way in getting you to the position you want, even if you have to start in an entry level position.

Many students have aspirations for their careers as talent managers, public relations specialists, producers or publicists. Again, anyone can enter these roles, but you may have to start in a much lower level position when you first complete your education.

Your options for an education are as varied as the careers available. Some colleges will offer specific degree programs and there are countless art schools that train students to work specifically in this field. Salary expectations can vary wildly, so research the specific area you wish to work in to get a fair idea. If you know of a particular individual in the entertainment business that you wish to mimic in your career, try to find some information about his or her education and experience. This will go a long way in getting you on the right path to your dream job.

Going to College Online

Earning a degree can be difficult with any schedule. If your schedule is particularly busy you may have put school off longer than you needed to. Many students have turned to online degree programs as a way to balance their personal schedule along side their work schedule.

Most schools offer some form of online education, many offer dedicated online degree programs with little to no time required on a physical campus. Depending on the path you take, you may need to do lab work and should discuss this with an admissions counselor before deciding on the school you will attend.

Online degree programs work much the same way as traditional classroom study with a few important distinctions. In online courses you will be provided with a schedule when the semester begins. This schedule will help you keep on pace with assignments by letting you know when textbook chapters should be studied. Graded work will have dates that you can submit work on or before. Your instructor may also provide you with lecture notes in a video, text or audio format. Again, when and how you study is completely up to you. Because of this, many instructors allow their students to complete courses well ahead of time.

As you can see, online course work has become significantly less rigid in schedule. This allows you to return to school now, regardless of your schedule. Find the right school and you’ll be on your way to making it in the entertainment business!
