Scrub Nurse Training

Scrub nurse training involves both education through an accredited college, as well as experience gained through on-the-job training. While an Associate’s of Science in Nursing is accepted for most employers to become a registered nurse, it will boost your opportunities if you go back to college to earn your Bachelors of Science in Nursing. In either case, you may be required to go through various continuing education courses each year. This will give you some additional expertise in the field, and move you above others who are applying for the same job.

College Education

An Associates of Science in Nursing is acceptable for most healthcare facilities for scrub nurses. However, your scrub nurse training will give you a better chance of landing the job you want, with the salary you need. The Bachelors of Science in Nursing is available through most of the top online universities, and can be completed through distance learning. If you want to be a scrub nurse, it is a good idea to focus most of your clinical studies on various surgical courses and departments. When you go back to college to earn your online bachelor’s degree, you can expect your chances of employment to rise. This degree will take up to four years to complete, if you do not already have an associate’s degree. If you do have an associate’s degree, you can expect your bachelor’s degree to take only two years. If you wish to take your nursing career as far as it can go, you can go back to college and earn your master’s degree.

Experience

Experience is also required for scrub nurse training. This gives you on the job instruction that will enable you to be successful in the operating room, where you will not always be under supervision by the doctor. Most scrub nurses do not just gain employment directly out of college. Instead, they must work in another unit for at least one year before they can start their on-site scrub nurse training. Most nurses who wish to work in the operating room will receive scrub nurse training in an emergency room. It is a good idea to let your supervisors know that you would like to be trained. This will give them the opportunity to show you various procedures that you may see in the operating room.
