Poised to become the new face of contemporary jazz, LAILA BIALI has showcased her original music and arrangements at world-class venues spanning five continents, including New York City’s Carnegie Hall, the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands, Peru’s El Festival Internacional de Lima and The Cotton Club in Tokyo, Japan. Her musical versatility has also won her touring engagements with top-tier artists, including jazz trumpeter Chris Botti, Grammy award winning singer-songwriter Paula Cole, platinum selling artist Suzanne Vega, and most recently pop icon STING. Laila’s last album From Sea to Sky was called a “surefire winner” (Toronto Star) with “cause for celebration and recognition” (Montreal Gazette). Her latest album, Tracing Light, has been JUNO nominated for 2011 Vocal Jazz Album of the Year and is being heralded for its “bold musical ventures”, “youthful funkiness”, “ingenuity, verve and depth” (Ottawa Citizen). Already named SOCAN Composer and Keyboardist of the Year at the 2005 National Jazz Awards, Laila has moved from being cited as an artist to watch to one who is, as Toronto Life Magazine put it, “on the way to setting, and playing, her own standards.”
