Electro-Mechanical Technicians

Electro-Mechanical Technicians, sometimes known as test technicians, testers, product test specialists, and many others titles are responsible for operating, maintaining, and testing automated servos and remote equipment. This may involve unmanned vehicles such as submarines and airplanes, to a variety of robotic equipment.

An Electro-Mechanical Technician runs tests on the equipment to ensure that each part and system is working correctly by itself and interacting with the other systems. They often work with electrical and electronic technicians as well as mechanical technicians in maintaining equipment.

These technicians can work in a variety of places, but most work at constuction sites, laboratories, and industrial and manufacturing plants. They use a variety of tools depending upon the specific needs of the equipment. They will occasionally build prototype equipment based on designs and specifications from engineers.

An associate’s degree is often required for a position as an Electro-Mechanical Technician. A strong background in science and mathematics is highly recommended. Creativity is also seen as an important trait, since often technicians work in designing components with engineers and need to solve problems. Be sure to look into the programs being offered in many locations.
