Electronics Engineers design electrical circuits and components to be used in electronic devices. They design components for virtually every kind of electronic device that isn’t part of a computer, which are designed by computer engineers. Components can range from parts of telecommunications equipment, to aviation parts, to hand-held music players.
When an Electronic Engineer designs a component, they also determine the materials needed as well as the equipment needed to build the part. They are also responsible for assembling and testing a prototype, then revising the design if needed.
Electronic Engineers usually work in office buildings. They may occasionally visit manufacturing sites and other areas, but the majority of work will be done in an office or laboratory.
The level of education required will vary on the position. Some may require post-graduation education, but virtually all positions require a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related degree. Be sure to take a look at the degrees being offered in many locations.
