Fire-Prevention and Protection Engineers are responsible for creating new design processes, materials, and components, that are more resistant to fire based on researching fire causes. They also design fire-detection equipment.

They also inspect buildings to determine what fire protection is needed and possible problems that need solutions and protective equipment. They also advise architects and construction personnel on fire prevention techniques and equipment. They often determine the cause of fires and determine how the fire could have been prevented.
