What Is It Like to Work in Accounts Receivable?

As an accounts receivable graduate your duties will include assisting clients with bills or billing issues, creating spread sheets to organize accounts, manage incoming money, manage client’s payments, and other related tasks. As you search for a career in accounts receivable you may notice that the education requirements are usually set at high school graduate levels. However, there are many reasons to consider earning a post-secondary degree related to this field.

In general, an accounts receivable employee can expect an average income in the $30,000 range per year. With an education you could find a management position much easier and expect $100,000 a year in some cases. The income is not the only reason to earn a degree that will work in this field though. As you are aware, the job market is not as strong as it may have been in the past. This may even be the reason you are looking to earn an education at this point. Individuals with college educations or career training usually have a better chance of landing a job. Getting your education does more than just train you, it also shows potential employers that you finish what you start.

Educational Requirements

With this in mind, you may wonder what you need to do to get started on your education in accounts receivable. If you are not working currently, you may have a bit of an easier time returning to school. If you do have a very busy schedule already, fitting a busy school schedule into the day can seem impossible. It may be worth trying to find an entry level position in the field, even if it’s only part-time.

Many schools offer some form of online education, many will educate you without you ever needing to step foot on their physical campus. Online courses work much the same way as offline, traditional study. There are a few important differences though. With an online course, your instructor will assign textbook study to prepare you for any graded assignments. They may even provide lecture notes in an audio, video or text format. For graded assignments you will have due dates, but when and how you prepare and submit the work is largely up to you. Instructors will often allow you to complete your course early, giving you all the more reason to consider an online education if time is an issue.
