Banking and Finance Jobs
There are many different opportunities with banking and finance jobs; some require a bachelor’s degree while others are entry level and only require a high school diploma. While you may not need a degree for many of the entry level jobs, if you do have at least a four year Bachelor’s degree, you will see your potential salary jump at least $20-$30,000 per year, depending on the specific position. The salary alone makes going back to college well worth the time and money it takes, also, with distance learning from available from many different online colleges, you can get your degree in your spare time. Banking and finance jobs have quickly become one of the best careers lately with unlimited earning potential in both base salary and commissions. Some of the top banking and finance jobs include entry level tellers, investment bankers and business bankers.
Bank Teller
The bank teller is the most popular entry level banking position. The teller is the one who makes deposits and withdrawals from customers, answers the telephone and directs the customers to staff like loan officers who can help them with more in depth needs. This position generally requires money handling experience although no degree is required. The teller position is generally paid anywhere from $10-$12 per hour plus benefits, which is still a very fair starting wage for any occupation without a degree.
Investment Banker
The investment banker has a very stressful and important job. They have the job of informing their clients on how to invest their money; whether it is stocks or bonds or another investment venture. They keep a close eye on all their clients’ finances including their net worth as well as their cash on hand and money in the bank. If a client’s stock plummets, it is the job of the investment banker to sell that stock before the client loses too much money on it and invests it somewhere else. This is a very high stress and high paying job with a starting salary of $100,000 or more per year. While the salary is well above average for this position, it is also usually recommended that the investment banker has at least an online master’s degree in banking or finance on top of many years’ experience with banking and finance jobs. This is considered a senior level position in any bank.
Business Banker
The business banker or commercial banker is one that is the cornerstone of banking and finance jobs. This position is responsible for all corporate accounts that are held with the bank. This responsibility includes keeping track of the business’s portfolio including profit and loss and investments. The corporate banker is there not only to protect the business account from getting the account in trouble, but they also must determine what risks the bank should take as far as loaning the business money; they need to be able to determine if the company is in a position to pay the bank back, making their payments on time and in full every month. While this position usually requires at least a bachelor’s degree, the pay scale ranges greatly from $40,000 to $100,000 per year.
