FBI Special Agent Salary
FBI special agent salary varies greatly depending on what grade level they are at, how much experience they have with the FBI and if they must relocate to a new field office. In order to achieve the highest salary grade, you must go back to college and earn a Bachelors degree or even an online Masters degree. Government Grade Level Salary

All new special agents start out at the government law enforcement grade 10 which equals $44,000 per year to start. The FBI offers all employees a lump sum of $22,000 for all employees who need to relocate. In addition, the agent also receives a percentage for locality pay which depends on where they are located; for instance, Washington DC offers a locality pay of 17.5%; after the locality pay has been adjusted, the agent is also given availability pay on top of salary and locality pay. The availability pay equals about 25% of the base pay, or $12,000 per year for new agents. Once an agent has achieved seniority and experience with the FBI, their FBI special agent salary can increase up to grade 13 which equals about $66,000 per year for the base pay, plus availability and locality pay. It is not uncommon for those in supervisory positions as an FBI special agent to earn in the $100,000 per year range making the FBI special agents one of the top careers today.
