Farmworkers, Farm and Ranch Animals
Farmworkers who tend to animals are responsible for the feeding, herding, grazing, castrating, branding, de-beaking, weighing, and loading animals found in farms and ranches. They also are responsible for various animal-related duties such as shearing wool from sheep and collecting eggs.
Farmworkers who are responsible for animals also inspect them regularly for disease, illnesses, and injury and will often provide basic medical treatment for the animals. For more serious cases they arrange for veterinarians to care for the animals.
They are also responsible for the facilities used by the animals, including their maintenance and cleanliness. They will regularly clean up after the animals, repair fences, etc.
Most skills for Farmworkers who work with farm and ranch animals are learned on the job. It is always recommended to obtain a high school diploma or GED certificate. Check out the programs being offered in many locations.
