Environmental science and protection technicians are responsible for testing for pollutants in the environment and identifying the kind of pollutants and their source. This may include tests in the field as well as in laboratories and often collect the samples used for testing themselves.
These technicians are also responsible for preparing reports base on their tests. They also need to explain the results to customers, clients, or supervisors, who may not understand the technical details of the test. Environmental Science and Protection Technicians are also involved in discussing solutions to environmental problems, waste management, management of hazardous materials, and regulatory compliance.
Most work will be done in laboratories, with some work in the field. Many work directly under environmental scientists at private consulting firms or for other business.
