Environmental Scientists and Specialists, Including Health

Environmental Scientists and Specialists identify risks and problems to the environment, and devise solutions to restore the environment to an acceptable state. Environmental Scientists use their knowledge of physics, chemistry, biology, soil science, and geology to determine potential risks to the environment, run tests to determine if pollutants are in the air, water, or ground and reclaim contaminated areas.

Environmental Scientists and Specialists understand the principles of conservation, degradation, recycling, and replenishment. They use this knowledge when determining the level of pollution and the appropriate response to reclaim an area. They often design waste disposal sites, and create specific methods to reclaim an area based on its unique characteristics.

Most time is spent in the field, inspecting sites, performing risk management, and directing disposal and reclamation efforts. Some work is performed in a laboratory testing new methods and testing water and soil samples.

A position as an Environmental Scientist and Specialist requires the minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science. Check out the degrees being offered in many locations.
