If you have turned on the television any time over the last decade, most likely you have seen some form of crime scene investigation show. If you have seen one that studies skeletal remains to get clues to determine the cause of death and other important information then you have a fair understanding of forensic anthropology already, or at least what the job entails.
In forensic anthropology you will study skeletal remains to determine if the cause of death was criminal or natural. Working in forensics also affords you the ability to submit your findings to a court of law for trials. You will most likely be employed by the state or local county and can expect a varying income based on your experience and position of around 50-100k a year.
You should expect to spend seven years in school with another in a fellowship. This allows you to learn the required medical information and then spend time with other professionals to learn the job without being thrown out to the wolves as it were. Forensic anthropology will often work alongside police forces to help track down criminals. Not all bodies that are found in crimes are easily identifiable. This is where forensic anthropologists come in. You will check dental records as well as other identifying marks to try to determine the identity of the individual. You may also look for clues as to how the individual died. These clues could help convict or prove the innocence of the suspects. As you can see, this is an important job and you should expect some level of stress with it. On the best of days you can prove someones innocence, on the worst, you will have to break down a violent crime. All of this comes without surprise though and if this is a career you are already interested in, getting educated is the first step.

Many instructors allow students to finish the entire class, including finals, early.
