Careers as Broadcast Technicians

People who are good troubleshooters, analytical thinkers, and have attention to detail may be perfect candidates for becoming broadcast technicians.

Broadcast technicians work with electronic equipment that transmits radio and television shows. They use audio and video equipment, set the volume and maintain sound and broadcast quality, and make sure the brightness, color, and contrast of videos are good.

Other tasks include monitoring incoming and outgoing broadcast signals, making sure scheduled programs are ready, deciding what sources to get programs from and which ones to transmit them through, and maintaining equipment.

Broadcast technicians usually have an associate’s degree. An education program will cover topics such as communications, telecommunications, media, computers, electronics, engineering, technology, and mechanics.

Regardless of their background or experience, students can embark on an eventful career as a broadcast technician today in many locations.
