Careers as Choreographers
Choreographers are the people behind dance performances who create routines, teach classes, and direct stage movements.
Usually choreographers create dances for companies, individual performers, operas, television shows, special events, fashion shows, or musical theater productions.
Duties of choreographers include managing rehearsals, teaching dance techniques, choosing music, overseeing auditions, and helping performers train.
People who are successful with this job are usually good at teaching, giving directions, critical thinking, decision making, managing resources and people, listening, and creative thinking.
Choreographers spend much of their time in a studio or on a stage and working with other people. They help performers prepare for a production, teach classes, and work with music technicians and stage hands.
Students interested in becoming choreographers, will need a bachelor’s degree. An educational program will teach students all they need to know about fine arts, sociology, anthropology, psychology, history, communications, media, and education and training.
Regardless of their background or experience, students can embark on a rewarding career as a choreographer in many locations.
