Careers as Dental Hygienists

Dental hygienists administer preventative dental care. This includes inspection of teeth and gums, removal of hard and soft deposits on teeth, and instruct patients on proper oral hygiene.

Some dental hygienists work with dentists during dental procedures. Other duties vary from state to state; some states allow dental hygienists to place and carve fillings, administer anesthetic, and a variety of other duties, it is important that potential dental hygienists acquaint themselves with the duties their state allows.

Dental hygienists require a degree from an accredited dental hygiene school and must obtain a State license. Be sure to check out the dental hygienist programs being offered in many locations.
