Careers as Explosives Workers, Ordnance Handling Experts, and Blasters

Explosive Workers, Ordnance Handling Experts, and Blasters are responsible for using explosives to demolish structures and blasting earth and rock. These workers are also responsible for the handling and storage of these explosives.

These experts examine the blasting site, determine the kind of explosives as well as the amount. They place the explosives and set up the fuses needed to detonate the material. Then detonate the explosive.

Explosives are most often placed in drill holes. Some blasters are responsible for determine where the drill holes will be placed, and all blasters use measuring tools to ensure the holes are deep enough to ensure both the desired effect, and the safety of themselves and other workers. All explosive material and blasts must be carefully recorded to comply with federal and state regulations concerning explosives and explosive material.

Positions as Explosives Workers, Ordnance Handling Experts, and Blasters require a High School Diploma or GED certificate. Check out the programs being offered in many locations.
