Engineering managers are in charge of directing and guiding teams of engineers through the design, development, and production phases of various projects. The engineering manager’s job is to see the big picture and look for opportunities to increase efficiency, maximize cost cutting strategies, ensure regulation and quality standards are met, and act as a client liaison when necessary.

In many locations engineering management programs will teach students basic principles of leadership and technical management including problem solving, critical thinking, time management, budgeting skills, and how to deal with employees.
