Phlebotomy | Online Master's Degrees

Most people have heard of phlebotomy but don’t have any idea what it is. Or maybe they know what it is but would never attempt to pronounce the word.

Phlebotomy is drawing blood from a patient for medical purposes. Physicians, nurses, medical assistants, paramedics, cardiac physiologists, and clinical laboratory scientists perform phlebotomy. While all of these people have the know how to draw blood, the job of the phlebotomist is to relieve the work load of doctors and nurses.

In many locations phlebotomy programs teach students how to draw blood from patients or donors, verify records, take vital signs, and test blood samples.

The demand for phlebotomists is high and expected to grow so finding a job will is usually not a problem. Flexibility is a great part of the job because phlebotomists can work lots of hours or or for short periods of time by contract.
