Accredited Online Nursing Degrees
With the rising costs and time constraints of many conventional nursing schools and training centers, many students are turning to the convenience and affordability of accredited online nursing degrees. Unfortunately, many online schools are not accredited nursing institutions. As a result, the degrees earned through these for-profit schools are essentially worthless in terms of getting employment and starting your career.
When searching for a post-secondary education online, make sure you attend a school that offers accredited online degrees.
Advantages of Accredited Online Nursing Degrees
Obtaining a nursing school accreditation builds a gateway for students to begin their careers. While the requirements for licensed vocational nurse positions can vary from state to state, most registered nursing positions require a degree from an accredited school.
Obtaining one of many accredited online nursing degrees can give you the flexibility necessary to work at the hospital of your choosing, regardless of your location. An accredited nursing school also offers students the opportunity to participate in federally funded grant, loan, and entitlement programs.
In addition, many graduate nursing programs only accept students who have attended an accredited nursing school, such as a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) or master’s program. Once a student’s education is complete, the education they earned can help them in the job market. Most employers prefer to hire applicants who have studied under the standards set by an accredited education.
National Council of Licensure Examination
In order to become a registered nurse, a student must pass the National Council Licensure Examination Examination (NCLEX). The licensing board also approves schools for accreditation. An accredited online nursing school is typically approved by the state board and at the federal level, and is specifically designed to prepare students for the NCLEX.
Schools that are only approved on the state level will render a student ineligible to not only take the examination, but apply for graduate work as well. This is why it is critical for any prospective nursing student to attend a school that is nationally accredited before pursuing a career in nursing.
