Ten Tips for Writing A Good Essay for Online Colleges

Responding to essay questions is a skill that all online college students must perfect. The purpose of an essay question is to test the student’s ability to theorize a response that is supported with facts. These ten tips will develop a strong basis for writing essays for online colleges.

1.) Read the question once, twice and three times. Consider what the goal of the question and how to properly approach it. Before responding, think back to online class lectures and keywords and phrases. Are any of these keywords within the essay question? Understanding the question is the first step to writing a great online essay.

2.) Research at the library or search online database for support after the question has been analyzed. A good source for primary information is the text book. Reading passages containing information on the essay will give you additional knowledge to consider when doing research. Most school give students access to online database that search journals and research. This tool is an excellent place to start.

3.) Planning the essay is the backbone for successful writing. Create an outline for the essay that starts with the introduction, thesis, points that support your thesis and conclusion. It is suggested that students right the introduction and conclusion first so that the student can ensure that the essay is open and closed in a professional manner.

4.) Once the outline is completed start focusing on the research of the paper. Organize the research under the appropriate points that support your essay thesis. In doing so, the student will be able to properly add these research points. The essay and structure the essay around these topic points.

5.) Work on the rough draft. The purpose of the rough draft is to get all facts and thoughts on paper in an organized manner. Once the rough draft is done editing and revisions can be made.

6.) Time is the greatest enemy of a student. Ensure that your process is in line with the deadline of the essay.

7.) Avoid personal opinion throughout the essay. The thesis of the essay is driven by facts that have been researched in scholar journals. The personal opinion of the student is not a part of the research and cannot be factually based. Therefore it is important to stick to facts and hard research.

8.) Review the content of the rough draft to ensure that the original question is being answered. The essay should flow from one supported point to another.

9.) It is now time to write the final draft. Rewrite the essay from the corrections made on the rough draft.

10.) The last step is yet another review of the final draft. Check for any spelling or grammatical errors. Ensure that the question has been thoroughly answered and that the paper meets all criteria set forth by the online college professor.
