Online classes are a great way to earn your degree because they are convenient and offer flexibility. However, technology can sometimes interfere with the ease of online courses. Here is The Online College Technological Emergency Kit: Ten Things You Should Always Have.
1. A USB flash drive
It’s great to have a flash drive on hand for the times when you need to transfer files in a hurry. This will help you greatly if you suddenly have to head to another computer.
2. Nearby wireless internet location
Know where a nearby wi-fi spot is in case your internet connection dies or you have a problem with your router. Many coffee shops and restaurants offer free wi-fi.
3. Tech support on speed dial
You should have the number for the university’s tech support, or any technologically-minded friends who may be able to help you in case of emergency.
4. Backups of your files and assignments
Always save your work as you go, and create backups of your important files just in case.
5. Great anti-virus software
A great anti-virus software, along with regular running it to scan for problems, is a great way to prevent many problems you could face.
6. A backup computer plan
Have a backup computer plan in mind in case you were to have problems on short notice. Can you go to the library, or perhaps a friend’s house?
7. Your teacher’s contact information
Keep your teacher’s contact information in case of technological emergencies. This allows you to contact the instructor to ask for an extended deadline or help.
8. Extra supplies to do your work on paper if needed
You should have paper, printer ink, your textbook, and other materials on hand that would allow you to work the old-fashioned way if it came to it.
9. Access to a printer or fax
In the worst case scenario, you could print your assignment and fax it to your instructor.
10. Plan extra time
By planning extra time to do your work, you’ll be able to deal with any problems that arise and still finish on time.
