Google: A College Student’s Best Friend

0

The number of people who understand Google’s capabilities and free services is enormous, but the amount of people that actually understand how to utilize them and implement them into their life is alarmingly low. Google has many services that you can use to improve your grades and organization while overall becoming more efficient. Below is a list of 4 free services Google provides to make your life better.

People hardly understand the power of a Google search.

The Classic Google Search

People hardly understand the power of a Google search. Make sure you use Google as often as possible before you ask anyone else a question, you can find better answers and they always take less than a second to produce millions of results. Some people find it useful to keep Google as their homepage or to use Chrome, Google’s internet browser that lets you do Google searches in the address bar. Whatever your solution, make sure you try to make searching Google a more common practice when you ever need an answer to a question or to learn something.

Google Calendar

Google calendar is an extremely useful tool that helps you organize everything from classes to dates. The calendar is web-based so you can access it anywhere. It takes some time and patience to master but once you get the hang of it you will notice a huge increase in your productivity, reliability and timeliness in completing assignments and other tasks.

Google Books Search

So you have a comparative analysis on William Penn and John Winthrop due on Monday, but you for some strange reason actually finished the books way before the deadline. The problem is, you have completely forgot what the books said. No problem! Simply go to Google and after searching for your book, click on the books link in the left-hand menu bar. Google compiles massive lists of books, which either offer a preview, snippet view, or just a summary of the book. Most books will offer at least a snippet view where you can at least search a keyword which will show you parts of the book where that keyword is in the text. This can be extremely resourceful for those long books or multiple books where you may need some help remembering certain passages.

Google Docs and Reviews

If you have never used a shared Google Doc to review for a test, you are seriously deprived. Google Docs are web-based which means you can access them from any computer in the world. One person creates a word, excel or powerpoint document then they send an email with the link for others to view and edit the document. This makes it a lot easier to divide review sheets so you can spend less time finding answers and more time reviewing them.

Google has many resources available to you that will change your life. Getting help will be easier, finishing projects will be faster, and managing your crazy schedule will help you to always be on time. The fact that all these amazing state-of-the-art resources are free should attract any college student looking for relief from stress and disorganization. The hardest part is simply making them a part of your daily routine.
