Overcoming Your Computer Obsession

As technology allows us to manage almost every aspect of our lives via computers and smart phones, a negative trend has been developing. People, particularly college students, are becoming inseparably connected to computers. While computers are a necessary part of college and life, this habit is preventing us from developing traits and skills we need in the real world. Here are three suggestions that will help you end your love affair with your computer.

Pick Up a New Hobby

We can all think of at least one skill or hobby that we’ve always wanted to develop, but until now has been only a distant thought that we’ll get more serious about in the future. Well my friend, that day has come. Hobbies provide so many advantages for us in life, and it would be a shame not to develop them because we had to feed our cows on Farmville. Hobbies open the door to common interests with potential business associates and other people with whom it is important to form relationships. They also make you a more interesting person, which can never be a bad thing.

Get Out of the House

It’s amazing how much your life can change just by walking out your front door. Start an exercise routine and stick to it. You might think that whatever you’re doing on your laptop is a priority, but working out regularly will give you increased energy, alertness, and put you in a better mood. You can also get together with friends and meet new people. Developing social skills and relationships might be the most beneficial thing you can do, since many of life’s successes are the result of how well we communicate and interact with others.

Read a Book

The dwindling art of reading is one of the best kept secrets in the world. Most young people, especially college students, forget that there is such a thing as reading for fun. Not only does it take your mind off the other stresses of your life, but you can learn so much from other people. Reading good books will increase your vocabulary, make you more articulate, and expand your ideas and ways of thinking. All of these results of reading are advantageous in the real world.

Computer usage, just like any other good thing in life, is excellent in moderation. To keep it from turning into an obsession, put these tips into practice and you will see a noticeable change in your life.
