Immigration Officer
Needless to say, our country is one that people from all over the world want to come to. Often, this is not just to visit, but to stay. Unfortunately, not every immigrant comes to our country legally and must be detained until they are sent back to their country of origin. While this can sometimes be difficult to do to fellow humans, there is more at risk than many people care to admit. By allowing undocumented immigrants into our country we put ourselves at a significant risk for attacks on our soil. Now that our world is even more acutely aware of the dangers that can happen to us, this particular level of security is more important than ever. By becoming an immigration officer, you will become one of the men or women on the front lines, protecting this country from harm.
Immigration Officer
Spend some time learning about the different roles that are available in the immigration officer career path. You may work in the field or as a detention center officer. You should make sure you are comfortable with all aspects of this career before you start down the path to obtaining it. Once you have decided to work towards becoming an immigration officer you will need to earn a degree.
The degree you earn is not as important as the level of degree you earn. Expect to go to school for a bachelor’s degree at a minimum. It is advised that you earn a degree in international law or criminal justice related fields, but again, the major is less important than the actual degree. Once you have earned your degree you will need to apply with the department. A few requirements must be met before you can be hired. These requirements include: being under 40 years of age, pass a background check, written exam and be physically fit. You must also have a valid driver’s license and have resided in the U.S. for a minimum of three out of the last five years. Once you have been brought onto the force, you will start your training and be placed into your role.
Going to College
Finding a way to balance your personal and work schedule may be difficult enough without considering a school schedule. There is a way to overcome this issue through online colleges. Many students have already discovered the advantages to earning their degrees online. We will discuss just a few of these advantages now. Many colleges will allow you to earn a degree without ever visiting a physical campus. This gives you the ability to attend a college hundreds of miles away, without ever leaving your chair. This also means all of your classes will be taken online, which is a huge advantage for people with busy schedules.
At the start of an online course you will find a schedule that outlines the instructors lesson plan for the semester. As long as you are studying along with this schedule you will be staying in line with the classroom. This schedule also includes due dates for graded assignments such as tests, quizzes and homework. As long as you complete this work on or before the due dates, you decide when and how to complete and submit the work. If you want to become an immigration officer, you will need to go back to school to get your degree. Find an online college that suits you—you will be glad you did.
