Our country has a set of laws laid out for our security. Arguably the most important laws that we have are concerning immigration to this country. We are a country that happily accepts people from all walks of life, religions, countries and political views, but we do this according to the law. These laws are in place to control who comes to our country, with a primary focus on the security of our country and our economy. Learning how to become an immigration officer will put you at the front line of this important work.
As you learn how to become an immigration officer you will first see the need for a bachelor’s level degree. The major is not as important as the degree itself, it is something you need to plan for as you travel towards your ultimate goal. As you can imagine, majors in international law or criminal justice will help you in this field. A second language will also be a benefit, but is far from required. Spanish is the primary language of many of the immigrants, both legal and illegal, that you work with, so if you do decide on a secondary language, consider Spanish as your first choice.
Once you have earned your bachelor’s degree you will need to apply for this position. This can be done online and will require written testing as well.
