Careers as Fallers

A Faller is responsible for ensuring that when trees fall they cause minimal damage and fall in predictable ways.

Fallers examine every tree for rot and limb growth to predict how a tree will fall. They also clear brush from the general area, and clear an “escape route.” Cutting down one tree may involve removing several limbs from other trees to ensure the tree falls as planned. They use a variety of cutting techniques, saws, wedges, and axes.

After the tree has been cut down, a Faller will cut logs out of the downed tree to be used in various ways.

A formal education isn’t required to become a faller, however a High School diploma or GED certificate is highly recommended. Take a look at the programs being offered in many locations.
