Science Industry | Careers that require Degrees

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the science industry to grow in the coming years. People who like to think problems through and find answers using math do well in this industry, working with materials, products, lab equipment, computers, and software.

There are several different branches in the science industry, providing many varied and diverse career opportunities. Some careers include physicists, chemists, biological scientists, and agricultural scientists.

Physicists work in areas that relate to matter, outer space, aerospace, defense, computer hardware and manufacturing while organic and physical chemists work in a lab with test tubes and microscopes. Biological scientists do research on plants and animals and biological scientists work outside and determine what makes living things tick. Agricultural scientists study farms, crops, soil and animals and find ways to help the country become self-sustainable with these resources.

In order to be hired as a scientist, it is important to earn a bachelor’s degree or a PhD for more hands-on opportunities. Lab experience and internships also enhance a person’s credibility. Compensation can range from $25,000 to as much as $140,000.
