How to Cure Your St. Patrick’s Day Hangover
The morning after St. Patrick’s Day, you’re going to be hard pressed to pay close attention in class when you have a viscous hangover from a night of partying. If you are hungover and feeling it, here are eight tips to get you feeling better in no time.
-
Drink lots of water. Since alcohol is dehydrating, drinking lots of water will replenish your liquids and help you get the alcohol out of your system faster. Drinking water is the key to recovering from your hangover. Even if you’re not thirsty, drink water! It will be less of shock to the system if the water is room temperature.
- Drink Gatorade or Powerade. The electrolytes in sports drinks like Powerade will help revive your kidneys after a heavy night of drinking.
- Ginger Ale. Flat ginger ale is a great alternative to water if you’re not feeling it, plus it will soothe you sore stomach.
- Sweat it out. To help purge your body of the alcohol in your system, hit the gym and get your heart pumping, or take a hot bath to cleanse your body.
- Sleep. Hopefully you don’t have any early morning classes today because sometimes the only thing that helps you get over your hangover is plenty of sleep. Keep the lights off, the blinds drawn, and a cold cloth over your forehead for best results. A flexible schedule at an online college starts looking pretty good the day after St. Patrick’s Day, doesn’t it?
- Avoid painkillers. It’s natural to reach for an Aspirin or Tylenol when you’re in a ton of pain, but it’s wise to avoid painkillers while you’re hungover. Aspirin is a blood thinner, just like alcohol and can make matters worse.
- Bananas. Since alcohol will deplete your body’s potassium, eating bananas which are rich in potassium are a cheap and effective remedy.
- Take Alka Seltzer Morning Relief. Some people swear that this is the only effective hangover cure. It’s worth a shot!
