College is a great time to sample the offerings life has to offer before deciding what you’d like to specialize in. For the college student that needs some suggestions for the most productive college classes to take this year, we polled out Career Experts for suggestions on classes that every college students — including you! — should take to become more well-rounded individuals and better prepared for integration into the real world.

Administrative Communication recommended by Classy Career Girl. This memorable class really helped me get my resume ready to apply to jobs. During the class, we practiced answering interview questions in front of the entire class! It was scary but totally helped when I got into the real world. We also had to do 3 informational interviews which really allowed me to conquer my fear of speaking to important business people.

Business / Finance Classes recommended by Shane D. Inman. After graduating from college, many individuals will eventually end up starting their own businesses. The more you can learn about the topics of finance, taxes, laws pertaining to your occupation, marketing, advertising, human resources, accounting and public relations the better. My professional word to the want-to-be-wise is to read everything pertaining to your career to make sure it is your passion. When what you do is your passion – anything is possible.

World Religions recommended by Eric Clark. We live in an extremely diverse world, and it is important to know and understand the religious cultures/traditions of those around us. It is extremely easy to pass judgement if we do not know about a specific belief system, and we may even develop a deeper respect for all mankind if we know where they are coming from. Ignorance can be futile, and students should be proactive in their quest for knowledge of other belief systems.

The Works of Shakespeare recommended by Lisa J. Peck. This class will introduce them one of the greatest thinkers of all time. They would develop a deep level of understanding of human nature and challenge their mimd’s at all times.

Introduction to Psychology recommended by Beth Cabrera. It will help them understand how their own mind works, giving them greater self-awareness, which is extremely important for success. It will also help them to understand the behaviors of other people, which will help them to work successfully with others throughout their lives.

Effective Writing recommended by Charles Trapunski. Unbeknown to many students, the requirements for effective writing change dramatically between high school and college. Signing up for any first-year course that is dedicated to explaining the fundamentals of a first-year paper should be mandatory. Most institutions offer specific courses in effective writing, and while the courses are often marketed to ESL students, native speakers of English benefit greatly from them as well.
