Animal breeders study the genealogy of animals and work to provide the best farm animals and pets.

Animal lovers won’t want to miss this. Did you know you can have a whole career out of breeding animals? As an animal breeder you will do research about an animal’s genealogy and characteristics to determine what kind of offspring they will have. Breeders work to provide the best farm animals for food and textiles and the best domestic animals for pets.

Some animals breeders work with include cattle, horses, goats, sheep, swine, poultry, cats, dogs and birds, just to name a few. An animal breeder’s tasks include feeding animals, maintaining pens, examining animals to keep them healthy, treating injuries, vaccinating, grooming, recording characteristics and much more.

As an animal breeder you will work with tools like animal pregnancy testing kits, automated feed batch mixers, branding equipment, vaccination syringes and technology.

To land your dream job as an animal breeder, you will need a deep understand of management, customer service, sales, management, communications, biology, production and technology.

If you are dependable, independent, flexible and like to solve problems in a creative way, this job may be just what you are looking for.

To get started, you will need an associate’s degree. The average hourly wage of animal breeders is about $13 while the average annual income is about $27,000.
